UberMike: Doctor says “cut it out!”

By Mike Burns

So I saw a doctor or three after passing out like that. After blood work and a CAT scan my doctor’s conclusion was “cut it out!”

So I’m not doing the uberman again.

However, I am considering sleeping for 90 minutes every six hours. That’s six hour of sleep daily! Plus it will give me five-and-a-half hour “days” during which I can be totally awake.

Hey, I’m trying to do this uberman schedule ATM. Can you give any more detail about what happened at the end here? What exactly did the blood work and CAT scan show? Was it a result of the sleep experiments? Did the condition go away once you went back to monophasic?

    Thanks in advance =).

So what happened, so far as we can guess, is that my brain used NREM sleep to process water, and I had trained myself out of NREM; so, my brain tried to kill me by dehydration.

The CAT scan and blood work showed nothing interesting, and by that point I was totally back to normal. This problem went away immediately when I got more sleep and has not returned in the past 1.5 years.

That said, don’t be discouraged! I’d go back to polyphasic if my work schedule allowed it.

Interesting. I really wish people would do a lot more research into these alternative methods of sleep. We’d probably learn a lot. For example, I don’t think I’ve heard of the NREM phases being used to process water, before…

Anyway, thanks for the quick reply. Hopefully I won’t be so unlucky as you!

PS. this is the best blog name ever for polyphasic sleeping.
